Old and crippled.

I'm injured.  I hurt my back on Sunday and it's thrown off my whole week!!  I didn't go to work for part of the week....and when I did go I was more concerned with wearing clothes I could physically put on and not ones that were nice.  My husband even had to put my socks on for me a few of the days!  So I haven't gotten any exciting new pictures.....so instead, I leave you with these....some of my fashion choices through the years.....enjoy.

Me and my sister (sorry Tiffy).  My mom used to dress us in matching outfits ALL THE TIME.  Sometimes they were different colours...but lots of times they were identical.  And i'm the older one in this pic with the slightly bigger ears.

So THIS is how we do dinner parties at my house.  Themes are welcomed.  This was our "Mexican Easter" and yes, we ate dinner with the mustaches on.  Not the hats obviously, that would be rude the the table.

And I guess me and my sister never got over dressing alike.  There's lots of times where we will show up at the same location, after not having seen or talked to each other first, and we'll be wearing the EXACT SAME THING.  It's creepy actually.  So we were having dinner at my moms and I walked in and hear my sister say "ohhh nooo" and I look over and we are wearing the exact same shirt and a black sweater over top.  Shortly after my mom dissapears and then reappears with her striped shirt on proclaiming "we're triplets!".  Can't be dinner at my families house!

The last dress I bought.  Wore it for Gillians birthday party.  I always love the idea of dresses but have a hard time being comfortable in them.

And for my birthday....a Lady Gaga inspired costume party!  This was my Halloween catwoman costume and I cut the legs/arms off and jazzed it up a bit et voila!  Lady Gaga!! 

So this will have to tide you over for a bit until I get better!!  Today I feel more inspired and will try and put something together for a posting....and there's Saturday night to look forward to too!  We go out for Halloween so I'll have lots to share after that!!

Well this is the week of challenges!  I still have a day or so I believe open for you to decide what I should wear for the day!  Doesn't have to be an exact "outfit"...could just be like a colour, texture, pattern, accessory...that type of thing!  Here are the suggestions for the week already...

Now I didn't get yesterday done.  I hurt my back on Sunday and have been stuck at home doing this sit till it hurts, stand till it hurts, lay down till it hurts and repeat thing.  It's been great.  But I did wear my purple plaid pj pants with a bright orange shirt and grass green hoodie so does that count?  What other challenges can you give me to finish off my week?

Now I forgot my phone at home so couldn't get a picture till I finished work....so I'm standing in my closet.  The lighting isn't awesome but I'm wearing a bright purple tank dress!  Good job me!  And a black shrug type sweater.  I wore my Browns black motorcycle boots with this outfit too.

My pinky/purple striped socks and I'm good to go!!  Keep in mind when I wear my boots, you only see from the knee up so they aren't as Dr.Seuss.

Shannon and her Technicolor Dream Tunic!

This is my Friday Oct 21st and it's a sacred, holy event that could only be saved for a Sunday posting.  I.  Am.  Wearing.  Colour.  Lots of it.  And pattern.  And I didn't die, or get struck by lightening, or called names by little kids.  I did however feel.....odd...all day.  Like I was a glowing beacon or a giant neon sign.  So here's outfit in all it's magical Technicolour splendor.

OKAY so it's a tunic top from Bia Boro over some black leggings and some black suede over the knee boots....which are hard to see.

Wednesday Oct 19- boring but wait till tomorrow!

And it's Wednesday!  Okay..yes really it's Saturday...but I have one more boring pic of the week to get through before I post my SUPER MEGA COLOUR outfit that I wore this week!  I thought I'd save that posting for real world Sunday cause it's pretty much going to be a holy occasion.  I also realized I don't have a picture of Thursday Oct 20th's outfit....nor can I remember what I wore?!?  That's really odd!  Anybody remember what I wore on Thursday??? 

So black baggy shirt......jeans....ugly black elf boots......belt and my wedding ring necklace.

Okay so I forgot about these jeans.  I only own 3 pairs that fit me right now and these were on the bottom of the pile of leggings I guess!  They are Big Star and I actually really like them.  The whiskering/distressing on the legs isn't as prominent in real life...the flash just really picked them up for some reason!

AND this is the week next week so far!  Still needing a couple more suggestions...

I also got a suggestion to wear my Halloween costume.  Now, I would wear it to work, but there's lots of ways to ruin clothing at work so I don't want to wear it before I wear it out Saturday night.  But I could probably do a version of my costume, but not wear my actual costume?  Maybe that's not as exciting......what do you think?

And sorry, I won't be wearing a "big bird hat"....not sure what that even means.

So I've been called out.

"I am sorry to say that I have been reading all your fashion blogs and looking at the pictures and your outfits all look about the same. Tight dark pants/leggings, loose layered shirts. Mostly black with a bit of grey."

They're onto me ALREADY!  I haven't been doing this long enough to have my secrets figured out yet!  But it's totally true.  I am completely afraid of colour.  I enjoy it on other people, but when I try and wear it myself....I just feel like everyone is staring at me!  And I have no problems with being the center of attention (understatement of the year award goes toooo.....) but it just feels weird.  Luckily with my job, black is "the" colour.  It saves your clothes from a multitude of messes.  Colour doesn't stain quite so much...the gazillion of hairs stuck to you every day don't show up as much.....and in our industry, it's the universal "professional" hairstylist colour.  There are many salons that the stylists wear all black (maybe a bit of white...maybe) and that's it.  Head to toe.  Now that I can do!  I always use it as an excuse when I'm out shopping too.  I do education for a colour company which involves me going into other salons and teaching staff there how to use the colour line.  My dress code for such occasions is black.  So I can always say "well, I need black for work so I can buy another black shirt!" but I know I need to expand my closet.  That was the point of this blog really.  To challenge myself and to have others challenge me.  So I'm going to accept this as challenge #1 - attempt some colour.  Maybe a few days in a row.  Maybe by next week I'll have a week of challenges?  Okay, that might be a bit much for an entire week...but it is almost Halloween.  And Halloween week, the challenges could even be a bit more "out there"!  Who's in??  Here's the next weeks schedule....

Friday Oct 14th- Free Boobing It

Okay so I'm lame!!!  I've been SOOOO busy and let my new favorite hobby down!  So here's my newest posting.....and let's all pretend it's Friday Oct 14th!!  The weather is nice....Gillian is getting ready for a long bus ride and I can't wear a bra.  Oh what's that?  The last part?  Oh, about the bra?  Ya no....I can't wear one.  Long story short, I've been a cow for 2 years.  Now my cow services are no longer wanted, my body is having a shit fit and making it really difficult for me.  I could describe in great detail the pain and gory description of my boobs at the moment but instead I'll say that I have about a week ahead of me of no bra.  So I'm working on outfits to hide the fact that I'm free-boobing it.  So here's braless outfit #1!!

Okay so we got....black tights.....grey long tank top and a nice flowey, bat wingy style top!!  My purple boots make another appearance as well!

So purple!

Jewellery is my favorite necklace and some feather earrings....

Et VOILA!  Nobody even notices the fact that I'm flopping all over!  Mission complete.



Thursdays double whammy

So I'm having one of those days.  Grumpy, bloated, ate too much turkey, gained 2 lbs in my love handles and all my clothes are super uncomfortable.  I really would enjoy wearing my pj's and or my husbands pj's to work today.  But since that's somewhat "frowned upon" (who makes the rules anyways?) I guess I'm stuck dressing in real clothes.  So I dig out my old as the hills, 4 way stretch pants!  They are like wearing leggings/pj's/real pants all in one.  They aren't the most flattering up top but they button up without me wanting to kill myself.  Pair them with a sweater I bought years ago that keeps falling apart (thanks Seamstress Sister!) and at the moment is wearable and hole free. 

It's just a "meh" type outfit I know.  I hated it while wearing it but was running out of time and it was all I could manage.

Keeping it simple with jewellery.  My fav Stella&Dot earrings, my wedding rings necklace and a black cuff.

Now funny thing!  The pictures don't really pick up on this but I have spilt my morning coffee ALL DOWN THE SIDE of this sweater!  I mopped it up best I could but it soaked thru to my bra and has that like "old coffee" smell.  FML.  Not happy!  So then I remember, Nicole gave me a new shirt yesterday and I left it in my van!  Hooray!  A dry, clean shirt!  So today you get 2 "meh" outfits! ha!

It's Wednesday! And Vision shirt day!

Ah it's Wednesdays fashion post!  Okay so you may have noticed Tuesday is missing...or not.  But I was off on Tuesday (I demanded a long weekend!) so I didn't bother taking a picture.  Things were not looking awesome!  But today it was a bright and sunny day so I decided heck with pants!  Heck with them!!  Here be the Wednesday October 12th outfit!

Okay so I had gotten comments on my last dress of things like "Finally no pants!" so I decided to dig out the skirts!  So looking at this now, it's probably a little short for work.  I usually wear tights underneath it so it doesn't ride up, but it was riding up today!  But thanks to some help from Gill at work, it kept getting tugged down...where it needed to be!  Seriously, there was a time where my hands were full and she tugged it down. 

Here's a little closer detail of the belt/skirt.  It's super comfy stretchy.  And yes...black and grey.  Which seems to be my colours of choice.  Yes, I'm terrified of colour.

Okay so imagine this isn't in a mirror.  These tee-shirts are the tee shirts my dad's band had back in the 80's!  VISION is the band and it's like blasting out of an eyeball.  The tee shirts are super comfy and totally cute!  We had these black and white ones made up and we have white with black (the original colours) as well.  We made them for a concert that my dads band got back together for (after 24 years) and played at the Element.  It totally sold out!  We have them in men's version too and they are either white with black, or heather grey with black.  Me and my husband loves these shirts and have a gazillion each.  They are super nice fitting!  Anyone want one?  They could be yours for only $10 each!  I think we have some of every size left over....as well as a light grey kids size ones.  We had all of our middle sons soccer team wearing them last year!  Let me know!  We'll ship!

THANKSKISSING! It's a KISS inspired holiday!

Special edition outfit!  THANKSKISSING!  So this year for Thanksgiving we decided to have a theme...and that theme was KISS!  So this is my Thankskissing Day outfit!

Okay so we got Catman face paint, black bodysuit, black leather skirt, chain necklace and crazy tall Aldo booties!  Meow!

These boots seriously ad like 5" to my hight and I love them!

Spray tan! Oh and warning..I flash side bum.

SO OH MY GOD I GOT A SPRAY TAN!!!!!  Super crazy awesomely bronzed!  Basically there are 3 "levels" of solution and I got the one in the middle.  I was going to do less, because I am so pale normally and never have had a tan but in the end I thought HECK WITH IT and just did it!  So today my outfit was harder to pick.  Mostly because I wanted to spend the day lounging around in white underwear and nothing else, just getting my tan on kinda thing.  Also because things look different on when you have a tan, or any colour at all!  So I decided I needed to wear something white to really show everything off!

So this knit dress is basically all I have in white.  I bought it on a whim this summer, and then with it being knit it wound up being pretty warm for the summer.  The only other time I wore it I had black tights and a black belt and a longer black sweater.  And NO, I do NOT have nylons on!  Those are just my gloriously tanned legs!!!  I'm soooo excited!

I mean...just look at them!  This is what normal people legs look like!  Okay and WARNING....I'm gonna flash a little side bum.  I just want to show the tan line.  So what you are seeing are NOT my white underwear....that's just me....before spray tan.



Where oh where did my bum go??  It used to be nice...honest.  Now it's all flat and missing.  Boo!  Okay so for jewellery.....

Big necklace!  Earrings are simple...just clear beads on a very light chain....thanks to my Internet in Robson I can't load an entire pic and they keep getting cut off....but you get the idea!!  I went to my husbands work after I finished work for the day and he exclaimed that I looked like a trophy wife!  Haha!

Exciting day today!!  We're getting spray tans after work!  I've never had one....and I'm REALLY white and pasty!  Like....creepy white.  So tomorrows blog posting will be full of pictures of me being all glorious and bronze!  But for today, I leave you with these.....Friday Oct 7th/2011.

So all day today....and I mean ALL day today, I would have bet money that it was Friday.  But it wasn't.  Not even a little bit.  It was sadly only Thursday.  Today I decided I needed to break away from my legging addiction and wear some good ol'fashioned denim! 

So these are my favorite jeans.  And no, they are no jeggings.....have zero stretch at all even!  I recently started running and my thighs beefed up a bit so they are a bit tight to wear now in the legs, which is good I guess that I have muscles!  The jeans are Mavi.  Again.....my favorite boots, my Browns!

So I LOVE dressing up a plaid shirt with fancy jewellery!  These are my favorite glitzy earrings and I got them from Stella&Dot!  The shirt is a cheap-o WalMart find and all the buttons fell off in the wash so I have to use safety pins to hold it all together!  Sometimes I'll wear it open over a tank, and sometimes I'll just tie it at the waist.  I get lots of compliments on this stupid shirt!  My husband claims to like it cause I'm hate country music so this is as close to Shania Twain as he's going to get.  Isn't he romantic??

Earrings for me are easy....the bigger, the better!!

So Tuesday this week Gill and I go thrift shopping....which is one of our FAVORITE past times!  As soon as we walk in, Gill has found something for me!  She hands them to me with a "you're welcome" and it's a super awesome find!!  So of course, today, I had to wear the item!  So today I have on a long black tank, a flowey bat-wing type black knit top, animal print leggings, wedge heel mary janes and a long strand of pearls.  Which came from the thrift store?

Tuesday Oct 4th

So I didn't take pics of me on Sunday or Monday...my days off.  I figured nobody needs to see what I wear on my days off.  It is pretty attractive mind you......Barry's old shirts, pants, long sleeve button up flannel and sometimes even his boxers and socks.  Imagine a homeless person, but like, a fairly new homeless person so really the clothes are mostly ill fitting and faded, ripped and a little stained.  Not like urine stained or growing mold or anything.  That's pretty much what I look like on my days off.  Honest.  Pop over on a Sunday morning and see for yourself!!  So here's Tuesday!  Now, let me set up the day for you.  It was COLD.  Like, wet and rainy and the kind of day where you don't want to get up or wake up or leave the house.  It was a really slow day at work and half my day was going to be spend getting my own hair done.  So I didn't really dress up much.  Comfort was top of the list!!  Nicole at work made fun of my sweatshirt but it's okay.  She probably was secretly envious that she wasn't wearing a super awesome baggy sweatshirt with pockets.  Maybe she can borrow mine.

Okay so it is pretty sloppy.  I didn't think it looked so sloppy in real life.  You can't see from this pic but I'm wearing a very long stretch tank under which covers my butt and comes mid thigh so it looks like a tight tube skirt under the baggy sweatshirt and over the leggings.  And the socks...

.....a little wicked witch of the west as my Mom likes to say.  I figured it sort of "dressed" up that dreary rainy day!  And of course my boots.  Favorite things ever.  Browns and a quite a few years old but I get complements on them still!  Best $(enter ridiculously high number here) I ever spent!!

Crotch.

Okay so this Saturday I was feeling a little adventurous!  I figured, HEY!  Nothing says it's Saturday like a pair of cargo harem pants!  Am I right??  I bought these things like 6 months ago and NEVER wore them.  They always felt really sloppy.  I see them in magazines and I guess if I wore like heels and maybe a sequined crop top (NOT a red one Gillian!) then I could dress them up.  But just in every day wear, they are basically sweat pants...with more room in the crotchal area.  So my Saturday adventure is a pair of Hammer Pants (but a little less awesome.).

NEW BLOG - Fashion Whore Named Shannon

Okay....so I'm creating a new blog.  It's going to follow my journey through the days by posting my outfit choices.  Now don't get any ideas that I have these super amazing outfits, but I love clothes and struggle every morning with what to wear based on how I'm feeling, the clients I have for the day etc etc.  I LOVE clothes and am constantly in thrift stores to help add to my wardrobe.  In high school, I was always that girl who dressed "weird".  I tried to make my outfits look like I didn't care about them, but they'd take me hours to put together.  Not much has changed!  I still take hours to get dressed some days!  Mostly I struggle with my position as "business owner" because I'm a hair dresser, so I can get away with more "out there" clothing, but I still should look like I own the place.  I also struggle with the fact that I'm now in my 30's and have 3 kids.  What does one wear when they're in their 30's?  I love the trendy trends but they probably work better on someone in their 20's...but I'm a stylist so can I push the boundaries?  But I own a business so should I not even attempt it?  See?  It's a big event every morning!

Please comment on outfit choices, does it work?  Doesn't it?  What's good about it?  What should be scrapped?  And once you are familiar with what's in my wardrobe, please help me by suggesting outfits for me to wear.  Maybe like once a week, or on Saturdays or something I'll let my readers dress me!  And I'll be sure to announce a thrift store find, but it's up to you to find what it is!!  So thanks in advance!

So this week, I'm back logged!  I got pics all week but didn't get a chance to post any!  So these aren't "real time" outfits, but unless you're coming to the shop, you probably wouldn't have noticed!  Also, by having my pics for the week taken, I notice that from day to day, not much really changes with my clothes!  Maybe this will be the most boring blog ever?  Okay.......outfit number 1! 

Friday September 30th

Okay so this isn't the best place to take a picture....but I liked it cause it cut my head off.  Seriously! Ha!  So now all you can focus on is the clothes and not my crazy fro. 

So I swore up, down and sideways that unless we somehow returned to 1986, I would NEVER wear leggings as pants.  Yet here I am.  And in my defence, these aren't like your typical "legging".  They are super thick and have all sorts of seams and are meant to be more "pants".  What year is it again??

So basic outfit....floral leggings pants, black bat wing style shirt, leg warmers (did I just type that??) and suede ankle boots.  I should start taking a separate pic of detail, like the pattern on the pants, and maybe of my jewellery?  I do actually spend alot of time thinking about what jewellery to wear.  Hmm.....
